Let God be God
Lost in the Present Age
Down in the human heart, crushed by temptation feelings lie buried that grace can restore
Touched by a loving hand, wakened by kindness, chords that are broken will vibrate once more
In the present age, we find:
-
a yearning for something better than our amusements and diversions.

-
promises of prosperity, happiness and fulfilment that lead nowhere.

-
the dread of failure; like ending up in a poor area, with a pointless job, no standing, nor enough secure income to live comfortably

-
a sense of unfairness as others fare better than you, and rogues prosper

-
seeming freedom from old restrictions and taboos but fettered by regulation, surveillance, suspicion, and insecurity

-
not knowing what’s right and wrong or even for the best

-
doubts about who you are, where you fit in, and what you are for...and about commitment in this age of causal relationships

-
a gnawing realisation that the good times cannot last and that life will crumble into suffering and ultimately death

-
and that you will be pretty much on your own if someone doesn’t stand by you
and yet...

God intends us:
-
to prosper - all of us. This depends on fair exchange where in any transaction both parties are better off.

-
to live together in harmony, not depending on ‘rights’, but on caring for each other.

-
to value every person as equal in God’s estimation and of infinite worth.

-
to use any power and influence we have to give others a better life.

-
to live well, by enjoying and encouraging what is good, lovely and honest, and rejecting self-indulgence, phoniness, and sensation.

-
to use the world’s resources carefully and unselfishly.
This way of life hangs together, would work and bless all

And is there, flawed - yet active in individuals and communities everywhere and all the time.
